CLEANING THE WATERWAYS OF
STOCKHOLM WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY
A COLLABORATION WITH SL FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
In our hometown of Stockholm the city is actively taking steps to becoming a greener city. The city has set a target to have zero polluted waters by 2040 and one of the goals of their sustainability plan has been to encourage citizens to walk or cycle more to work, rather than taking the car.
Stockholm has integrated a ferry system which it aims to become one of the main forms of transportation within the city. As of now, SL has 7 ferry routes in Stockholm with 44 ferry stations. We would like to see that the citizens of Stockholm make more use of her waterways. The more ferries navigate the waterway the cleaner stockholm harbour and surrounding areas will become. As we move into the future we need to create solutions that focus on building holistic ecosystems where each step we take we think about the impact it will have on everything around us.

VISION

WE CREATE NEW PRODUCTS OF THE PLASTIC WASTE
SL CARDS AND FERRY INTERIOR
TWO-STAGE PROCESS
Sorting is mainly done automatically with a manual sort to ensure all contaminants have been removed.
Once sorted and cleaned, plastic can either be shredded into flakes or melt processed to form pellets before finally being moulded into new products.
THE PRODUCT
We will take the plastic waste and turn it into new products. We will focus on creating a new SL card which will be available to everyone who uses SL. The cards are recyclable and can be returned to SL once it has expired.
Another part of the plastic waste will be used to create new interiors creating seats and fabric for their ferry lines.
FUNDING
Financially we have 3 sources of income including two funding streams. First one is, from the end product that is produced from plastic after being recycled. This end product is sold to our collaborative partner for the most part which is SL that will get our plastic in the form of cards that can be used for travellers. The traveller can then hand in the card and then get it recycled again.
The other form of income/funding is from government grants to improve the environment. The second way we get funding is by donations made from companies wanting to support our cause and improve the water.
